About
(I’m 100% sure that 99% of the people who read this will be my family and/or my family of friends. But what the hell. Let’s pretend we don’t know each other. Hi. You can call me Kella. I’ll call you 1%. Either that or dude.)
I’ve been happily improvising in the kitchen since I was 10 years old (thanks, mom!). I spend almost every free moment thinking about, reading about, writing about, or photographing food. Which can be awkward in social situations unrelated to food. I also love cooking with and feeding my six-year-old kid.
Ongoing projects
CSA share week-by-week
Speaking of my kid, we go to North Market in Columbus, Ohio every Saturday year-round. We do it because I want her to know where her food comes from. Meet the people who grow it. Understand how the seasons influence what we cook and eat.
So during the growing season, my weeknight meal planning process includes a CSA vegetable and fruit share from Wayward Seed Farm. I plan our week of meals based on what we get each weekend and document the process and results here.
Go take a look! People way smarter and funnier than I am have lots to say about feeding kids. Sometimes, they let me play too.
Kid stuff
Ever get tired of bribing your kid to eat green stuff? Me too. That’s why it’s my mission to find new ways to make vegetables kid-friendly and chocolate bribery obsolete. When my kid likes something, I’ll let you know. Maybe yours will too.
Weeknight real
It’s simple: recipes that are realistic for weeknight cooking.
Cancelled: Eat your lunch
My favorite part of the day during the school year is packing my kid’s lunch. Seriously. I’m a total dork about it. So when the school year starts, I’ll share her lunches when they are worthy. Or just for the hell of it even when they aren’t.
(Yeah. The little poop totally out grew this. She loves getting school lunches now, and has left mommy lunches in the dust. Wah!
The good news is, her school lunch provider is Wholesome Tummies, a great company that offers organic, local, low waste lunches for kids. They rock!)

Thank you! It’s great to hear from you.
Kella, I LOVE this. Thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to keep checking back to read up on your delish dishes! Thanks for inspiring! Hugs (well, not the touchy kind), Kim
What a wonderful blog! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! You’ve found your calling. ;0)
Me and Vic…..oops sorry…..Vic and I (thats better) both really love chorizo, we always look for it in the ingredients on the menu when we go to a Mexican restraunt. Next time you are at mom and dads you’ll have to whip up some with those potatoes and call us over!
Sure! I can get some photo tips from you guys at the same time.
I am glad to finally visit your blog. This is really cool; your recipies are too fab! After reading some of your entries, I can almost see myself doing a CSA…we’ll see! I’ll be looking forward to see your kiddie lunch ideas as well. : )
Hey, Kella. Your Mom told J about your website, so I thought I’d check it out. Really interesting. You have a lot of your grandmother in you. I’ll let your cousins know about the website, too.
